Araxi Polony, AMFT

I work with clients to understand and heal the roots of their emotional pain. I received my Master’s of Science in clinical psychology at San Francisco State University, focusing on theoretical and applied training from psychodynamic, family systems, multicultural, and community psychology perspectives. I completed my training with individuals, youth, and families at the Edgewood Residential and Treatment Center and YouthPoint Health. I am currently licensed as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) in the State of California and work with Rose Therapy in San Francisco (Pacific Heights).

I specialize in family therapy, family estrangement, depression, anxiety, OCD, grief and loss, and attachment-based, racial, sexual, and economic trauma. My approach is integrative in nature, drawing from psychodynamic, depth, and behavioral approaches. Very often, this involves exploration of the unconscious, early childhood experiences, familial relationships, and broader socioeconomic conditions to cultivate insight and meaningful change. Depending on each client’s goals, I may incorporate narrative therapy, Internal Family Systems (parts work), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT), art therapy, family systems theory, and other modalities. I work across the life span, supporting children, adolescents, and adults at each stage of development.

Above all, I do not believe in a ‘one size fits all’ approach to therapy - I welcome ongoing feedback and exploration. My goal is to create a space where we can discuss your needs and what has and has not worked for you in the past.

On a personal note, I was born in Berkeley and raised in Oakland, California, and am the daughter of a Colombian immigrant mother and a Hungarian-American father. Prior to my career as a therapist, I worked in public and environmental health. Outside of work, I have a deep appreciation for the outdoors, philosophy, dance, and design.

If you are interested in working together, please email to request an initial 15-minute consultation to discuss your goals and my therapeutic approach.
